Tips for Opening Your Cabin in the Spring
We’ve got a bit of time left before winter is over and it’s time to head back to the cabin. But it’s never too early to prepare! Here are some tips on preparing to open your cabin after a long winter.
- Make a plan ahead of time. Check your boat registration and insurance status to verify if anything needs to be renewed and schedule any services you need ahead of time (dock installation, etc.). Turn on any services that you had shut off for the winter.
- Do an opening inspection. Upon arriving, test your smoke detector and C02 batteries, turn on water/heating, and inspect for any external damage that may have happened over the winter.
- Check for critter damage. Be on the lookout for holes in your screens, siding, gnawed wires, or rodent droppings.
- Restock necessities. Toss any expired canned food or staples leftover from last year and do an inventory on basics that you might need to shop for: things like sunscreen, batteries, bug spray, cleaning supplies, toiletry basics, etc.
